Our generation was primarily formula fed, and we have the highest ever rates of auto immune disorders, including asthma, Crohn's disease, and psoriatic arthritis. Correlation does not equal causation; however it is proven that breast milk supports a healthy immune system in important ways formula cannot. breast milk is specifically formulated for your individual baby, and it changes as your baby's needs change. I did extensive research, because after breast feeding my daughter for four months, I was over it. I wanted to stop so bad. But I've continued because one year of my life has the best potential to give her a strong immune system for life. It's worth it to me. We just passed the six month mark. I find talking with other breast feeding mothers (in person, at a group) very helpful. We discuss both the pleasant and terrible, but all walk away knowing we're doing the best thing for our children.

Why the heck would you give your baby fake man made milk when your body makes human milk for human baby's DUH it what its freaking there for But no women are to self centered and worried about there own career and life to think about what is best for their babies and they don't even care. you know what you shouldn't have opened your legs and had a baby if you don't want to take the responsibility for it. Nope just have stick a bottle in its mouth take it to daycare at 8 in the morning don't pick it up till 5:30 at night feed it bath it and put it to bed at 7 that way your baby has know idea who you are you spend what maybe a whole 4 hours with your child it is absolutely pathitice . then everyone wants to know whats wrong with kids now a days ....hmmmm I wander why they dont listen to their parents they dont even know them ...

In my opinion, this debate seems rather pointless... Each argument has good points, but now I see everyone arguing and calling one another names?

Im a new mother myself and for the first 7 months I fed by breast for my daughter, now she is on infant formula and to be honest I feel fine giving it to her. Sure its not AS good as mothers milk but it keeps her growing and healthy.

I won't deny there are certain brands I would never touch again. One for instance is Nestle good start... At 4 months I wanted to ween my daughter and tried to with Nestle.. There wasn't a chance in hell of getting her to drink it. I was told to try a different brand later and so I tried Infamil... She took to it emediately.. So to be honest I think our children have the natural instinct to truly notice when something is wrong or not.

Anyways, I really think that all this arguing should stop, yes the LC was doing her job, no I don't completely agree. Yes in a sense everyone is brainwashed one way or another in this crazy world... So honestly..Just trust yourself, who cares what others think!

If you think you are doing what is right, then go with it, don't look to others for the answer.

You know what for me Breast Feeding is soooo easy. I've been trying to wean her for a while, but I cant do it at night. I just dont want to get up, and yes she's in bed with me most of the night, but she has never fallen out and shes 8 mo old. Anyways Every bodies different. Cheers to you though for toughing it out, I do think also it is very valuable for babies... Why else would god give us boobies.

Your link does not work .... I was interested in reading it. I breast fed all of my kids up to 2 or 2.5 years. My youngest is now 21 months and still feeding. But i was interested in what the article had to say.

Wow...I don't think you need to go as far as saying they are "brainwashing" women into breastfeeding. Research shows that breastfeeding is by far the best option in feeding your baby. It has been proven, by medical research, that it helps prevent childhood cancers, disabilites, sicknesses, allergies and it also creates a totally different bond with the mother. Yes, breastfeeding is not for everyone. Some women don't produce enough and some have medical conditions that prevent them from breastfeeding. What is the reason for a woman not to breastfeed other then these two issues? Convenience? Laziness? It's to hard? I'll tell you that I have been breastfeeding my daighter strictly for 11 months now. It was by far the hardest thing I ever had to go through, next to childbirth. Engorgement, shooting pains, not producing enough, leaking, mastitis, blockages and malformation of my two ladies ;)
But I made a decision when my husband and I starting thinking of children. I was going to do anything and everything to give what's best to produce a healthy child. Breastfeeding being one of them.
Go and check out your research before claiming that people are brainwashing women into breastfeeding. They are only encouraging because it is so hard to do and keep up.
I encourage women to continue to do what "they" want to do. Don't listen to anyone when it comes to the health of your baby. Do your research!

maybe you can try a sip cup or a cup with a straw but tempoary and mix up a little to see which one works best.

so...... maybe breasts were made for nothing. and the fact that they leak? oh that's nothing either. god how stupid are u??????? did you know that some infant formula has a small amount of rocket fuel in it? It's this LC's JOB to tell people that breastfeeding is the best. OH and the milk in your refrigerator... that's from a lactating cow. mmmm... oh so much better than human milk. IDIOTS!

believe it or not i know breastfeeding is the best thing because it keeps your baby from sickness ,i have a 14month old who cant stop will i do it for my next one yes but i will i do it as long as my first no!\

i have a 14 month old who still feeds at night and nap any time hes tired he wants breast. i am no almost 10 weeks pregnant and my doctor said i need to stop breastfeeding because my uterus is contracting and its harmimg my baby. i'v tryed to wean him already and it was a nightmare,i also started at 4 months to give him formula but no luck on a bottle or pasafier

I honestly feel all lactation consultants are certified in brainwashing. Doctors will make you feel guilty for putting a baby in a car with no seat because IT IS DANGEROUS. Formula is absolutely not!!! The reason most of us are healthy and were not breastfed simply validates my point. You lactation people are narrow minded trying to force women into an uncomfortable situation out of guilt. What is also dangerous is encouraging moms to have the baby sleep with them during the night so they can get more sleep. My sister-in-law follows this garbage and has had the baby fall out of bed twice. Babies should be sleeping through the night in their own bed. Why don't you get off the bandwagon and start delivering the honest truth and not the stuff you yourself have been brainwashed in. And what about the disclaimer. Way to cover yourself for your own advice.
